A Letter from the President

#InductTheFlyingQueens

Dear Flying Queens, Bees, Coaches, and Friends:

Well, everyone, one week from today on April 6, 2019 we will know if all our joint efforts have been successful in our quest for Induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2019.

This Saturday morning, as I sit over my morning coffee, and reflect over the past week, as well as the past several years leading up to the upcoming press conference* in which we all will  hear the announcement as to whether the Wayland Flying Queens have been selected, I wish to share the following thoughts.

Many have contacted me via email, text, phone calls, and Messenger to see if I thought this would finally be OUR year. This has led me to sense that there is a lot of doubt about the Queens’ chances of being inducted to Naismith this year.

I personally feel in my heart of hearts that this is OUR YEAR!  Naismith has made some huge strides forward in giving more parity to women. Within the last year they have created an Advisory Council of Women to the CEO; they have created a “Veterans of Women’s Basketball Direct-Elect Committee.”  This progress in Naismith thinking gives me more confidence.

Margaret Parks (a Trail Blazer Queen of the 131-winning streak) earlier this week sent me an email with a very inspirational video that caused me to recall that my own mother told me as a child that I was never to say, “I Can’t.”   I say “WE CAN” because that is part of the Queens’ DNA!  I am confident we will get the NOD, but if in the final seconds we don’t win, we will be back—we will continue to knock on that Naismith door until that door is joyfully opened.

I would say to each of you to do individually what it takes to make yourselves feel confident that the Queens will succeed in getting recognized for their rightful place in Basketball History.

Respectfully,

Linda Pickens Price – Flying Queen Forever

President, Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation
