Wayland Baptist’s Jenna Cooper and Thad Udoh have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Women’s and Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

After an 11-11-11 triple-double on Dec. 7 against Oklahoma-Panhandle State, Cooper missed two double-doubles (by two rebounds in one game and by one assist in the other) when the No. 6 Flying Queens picked up a pair of wins last week in Florida. She averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.50 steals per game.

A junior forward from Claude, Cooper spearheaded Wayland to a come-from-behind, 73-69 victory over St. Thomas (Fla.) on Dec. 13 in Miami Gardens. She accumulated 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists in that game before getting 22 points, four rebounds, nine assists and season bests with four thefts and four 3-pointers in a 98-39 win over Florida National last Wednesday in Hialeah, Fla.

It is the second SAC Player of the Week honor of the season for Cooper, who on the season averages 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.36 steals a game with an 89.8 percent free-throw percentage, which ranks 15th in the NAIA.

“(Jenna) is our second-leading scorer and also leads us in rebounding and assists. It has always been an underrated and often under-appreciated part of her game. She wants to win, period,” Flying Queens coach Jason Cooper said.

Udoh collected SAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors after helping the Pioneers to their most lopsided victory since 2007

Udoh posted 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots in Wayland’s 105-39 rout of Calvary (Mo.) on Dec. 14 in Hutcherson Center. Udoh fired in 7-of-9 field goal attempts and 3-of-4 free-throw tries.

Udoh, a sophomore from Amarillo, shared game-high scoring honors with Greg Hulse as part of five double-digit scorers as the Pioneers logged their largest margin of victory since a 121-38 romp over Barclay (Kan.) on Nov. 6, 2007.

Udoh has contributed 12.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 57.9 percent from the field this season.

It marks the first time Wayland has swept SAC Basketball Player of the Week honors since Feb. 11-17, 2019, when current Flying Queen Kaylee Edgemon and Josh Throns were honored.
