After two of the most impressive back-to-back performances in recent Flying Queens history, Wayland Baptist’s Kaitlyn Edgemon has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

In home conference games last week against Central Christian and Langston, Edgemon, second-year freshman (due to COVID) from Littlefield, recorded a triple-double then followed that up with a career-high scoring effort.

First in an 86-49 win over Central Christian, Edgemon – after five double-doubles this season – recorded her first triple-double with 25 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Two days later in a 95-76 triumph over Langston, Edgemon scored a career-best 35 points – including 23 in the first half – while also notching seven rebounds, five blocks and four steals. Also in that game, older sister Kaylee Edgemon scored 33 points as the sisters combined to hit 14-of-14 free throws.

The scoring totals were career-bests for both players. Kaitlyn’s previous best was 27 points earlier this season while Kaylee’s was 30 last season.

For the week, Edgemon – the SAC Newcomer of the Year last season – shot 57 percent from the field (24-of-42), including 57 percent (56 percent) from 3-point range. She was perfect on seven free throws. She averaged a double-double with 30 points and 10 rebounds.

Kaitlyn is the third Flying Queen to earn SAC Player of the Week honors this season, following Kaylee and Jenna Cooper (twice).

Kaitlyn is averaging 15.5 points and a team-best 7.9 rebounds.

She is eligible for NAIA Player of the Week, to be announced Tuesday.
