For her outstanding efforts both on the court and in the classroom, Wayland Baptist Flying Queen Kaylee Edgemon has been named CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Edgemon, who previously was named CoSIDA Academic All-District, was voted to the Academic All-America Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above and have been enrolled at their current institution for at least a calendar year, have at least a cumulative 3.30 GPA, and be a starter or significant reserve who has participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games.

Edgemon, a 5-foot-11 graduate student from Littlefield, is a three-time NAIA All-American, having twice earned honorable mention honors before being selected to the First Team last season. She could become the first-ever Flying Queen to be a four-time NAIA All-American.

This season, she repeated as Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year, three years after being named SAC Newcomer of the year after transferring from Eastern New Mexico University where she was the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year. Last season she was the SAC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Year and an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

Edgemon leads the eighth-ranked Flying Queens (33-3) in scoring at 19.9 points per game, which ranks 14th in the NAIA, while her 676 points ranks second and 283 field goals rank second. She has scored in double-figures in all but one game the last two seasons, and in her four-year career she has scored 1,847 points, placing her sixth on the Flying Queens’ all-time scoring list.

Edgemon earned a bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary studies and plans to become a teacher.

Also recognized as CoSIDA Academic All-American was Oklahoma City University’s Abby Selzer on the First Team. The NAIA team featured five players on the First Team and five on the Second Team.
