Three membership levels

Foundation Members

Voting Members and Recent Graduate Members

Foundation Voting Members: All former players on the Flying Queens and Queen Bees, coaches and their spouses, team managers, and trainers and all members of the Claude Hutcherson extended family are eligible to join as Foundation Voting Members. These members pay annual dues, vote at the meetings, and are eligible to serve on the Board.

Recent Graduate Members: Defined as all current players on the Flying Queens and Queen Bees, team managers, and trainers. Membership dues are waived for the first five years following graduation from Wayland. Recent Graduate Members shall be granted voting rights at the annual meeting during this five-year period.

Foundation Associate

Supporters of the Flying Queens. Foundation Associates are full members but are not able to vote or serve on the board, but the Foundation seeks and encourages Foundation Associates’ participation on committees, in fundraisers and at Foundation events.

Legacy Donor

Voting

Contributors who have made an estate gift in the amount of $25,000 or more; have made a lifetime donation of $25,000 or more or have donated more than $25,000 to the Foundation through other means. These members have lifetime voting privileges and are eligible to serve on the Board.

The Foundation will communicate directly with individuals who qualify for membership as a Legacy Donor.

Why Should I Join?

Joining the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation is a chance to renew friendships and continue a legacy of support for a historic, nationally competitive women’s basketball program .

What has that legacy looked like?

Since its beginning in 2012, the Foundation has

  • Funded 13 grants worth approximately $82,000 in support of the Flying Queens program,
  • Honored the 131-win teams’ induction as Trailblazers into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame,
  • Presented a 1600-win and a 1700-win banner to the Flying Queens team,
  • Promoted Naismith Enshrinement that culminated with the Flying Queens 1948-82 program induction in September 2019,
  • Created commemorative books for Naismith teams 1948-82, and
  • Collected and preserved Flying Queens memorabilia for a proposed museum display.

As a member of the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation, you will

  • Receive regular updates about the current Flying Queens program and about the activities, events, and projects of the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation,
  • Build camaraderie and renew friendships with former players and others at Flying Queens games, receptions and socials, and Foundation fundraisers,
  • Pay forward for the young women who put on a Flying Queens uniform the athletic opportunities and educational experiences that shaped your life as a former player, coach, manager, trainer, or supporter with the Flying Queens program, and
  • Be part of continuing the tradition of excellence for one of the nation’s historic women’s basketball programs.

Expectations

As a member of the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation, you will have the opportunity to

  • When possible, attend Flying Queens basketball games, either at home or on the road;
  • Make annual financial contributions to the Foundation;
  • Participate in activities and fundraisers sponsored or organized by the Foundation,
  • Participate in outreach efforts to former teammates from your playing era at Wayland,
  • Consider participating on a project committee, and
  • For voting Members: Consider playing an active role in the Foundation as a member on the Board of Directors.
