Join us from 6pm-8pm on Tuesday, March 28th, when we will be showing a documentary titled “Flying Queens: A Basketball Dynasty” in our Museum Auditorium. After the screening of the documentary, we will have a time of Q&A with a panel of former Flying Queens, including Rita Colman, Valerie Goodwin-Colbert, Sharla Rich, Cherri Rapp, and others.

If you can’t join us in person, join us via Zoom.

The documentary is set in 1950s Texas, when a few talented young women received scholarships to form The Hutcherson Flying Queens. They would become famous for their on-court tricks, for their record-breaking activities, and for being the most winning amateur basketball team in US history. These young women (and the men who supported them), overcame the challenges of socio-economic and gender inequities to become trailblazers as they changed the face of women’s sports forever.

This documentary is a part of our celebrations for Women’s History Month; to see what else is going on at the Mabee, check out our new digital/online exhibit titled Women of the Mabee Regional Heritage Center” .
