The Wayland Baptist Flying Queens are tied for second in the latest 2020-21 NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

The Flying Queens (2-0) received three first-place votes and 566 points in the poll, tying them with Campbellsville, Ky., (4-0) which earned six first-place votes and the same 566 points. Despite dropping its only game so far this season to NCAA Division I Pepperdine (68-56) and two exhibitions to two other D1s, Westmont, Calif., stayed atop the poll with 12 first-place votes and 581 points.

Oklahoma City, which cancelled its fall schedule, is No. 5, moving up one spot from the previous preseason poll. The Flying Queens and Stars are the only Sooner Athletic Conference teams ranked, although Mid-America Christian received votes.

Wayland won its first two games of the season before the rest of its fall schedule – six games – were cancelled due to COVID-19 issues.

The Flying Queens resume play Jan. 9 with their SAC opener at Texas Wesleyan. They make their home debut Jan. 14 against Southwestern Christian.
