2024 Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation Golf Tournament Honoring Coach Dean Weese - Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation, Inc.

This year’s golf tournament honors Coach Dean Weese.

Weese was a legendary coach in the High Plains and Texas Panhandle who passed away on October 28, 2023 at the age of 88.

During his 42-year career, Weese’s record of 1,207-197 included six seasons as coach of the Flying Queens, amassing a193-30 mark including five appearances in the national AIAW tournament and two AAU titles.

Before his stint at Wayland, Weese spent 15 years at Spearman where his teams made eight appearances at the state tournament, winning three championships (1966, 1971,1972). After Wayland, Weese spent 19 years at Levelland where his teams won more than 550 games and seven state championships.

Weese was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, Texas High School Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, and Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame. He was selected as the 2000 National Girls’ Sport Coach of the Year by the National Federation Coaches Association.

Net proceeds from the Hutcherson Flying Queens Golf Tournament benefits the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens women’s basketball program.

Here’s why we do this

Since the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation began in 2012, its members have raised funds to support the nationally ranked Wayland Baptist Flying Queens women’s basketball team. The Foundation’s golf tournament has played a prominent role in raising annual funds for this effort.

Sponsorships are available at the platinum ($2,000), gold ($1,200), and silver ($800) levels as well as tournament goods and services sponsorships.

Event open to golfers and non-golfers – an informal reunion!

The weekend also provides a great opportunity for teammates to get together and reminisce about our time as Queens. Former Flying Queen players who don’t play golf are encouraged to arrive early to spend time with friends, volunteer at the golf tournament and attend the post-tournament luncheon.
