Four Wayland Baptist basketball players – Flying Queens Kaitlyn Edgemon and Taryn Shultz and Pioneers Jaxon Recer and Josh Servantez – have been named to the College Sports Communicators NAIA Academic All-District® teams.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be nominated, student-athletes must have at least a cumulative 3.5 grade-point average, must have been enrolled at their current school for at least one year and be a starter or key reserve.

Shultz is a 5-foot-8 sophomore guard from Bushland. She averages 5.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.

Edgemon, a 5-11 sophomore forward from Littlefield, leads the Flying Queens in rebounds at 7.3 rpg and is second in scoring at 18.6 ppg while also averaging 3.0 assists. Edgemon was All-Sooner Athletic Conference Third Team last season and SAC Freshman of the Year in 2020-21.

Recer is a 6-8 sophomore forward from Pottsboro who is the Pioneers’ second-leading rebounder at 5.4 per game. He averages 4.7 points and is shooting 62 percent (55-of-89) from the field.

Servantez is a 6-foot junior guard from Shallowater who played previously at McPherson College (Kan.). He is the Pioneers’ leading 3-point shooter, having hit 55-of-121 (46 percent) while shooting 83 percent (30-of-36) from the free-throw line.

The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.
The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
