Congratulations to Coach Dean Weese and his wife Jo Ann as they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on Nov. 25th.

Here’s JoAnn’s story about how they met……

Well now…… Dean came to Alva (Okla.) the summer of ‘59 to coach a youth baseball team. I think I was walking towards the office to my job one day and saw these guys that I knew, and Dean was in that car. It was just a day or two later that he called me. He had played basketball and baseball at Phillips University, and I knew who he was! Cocky outfit on the basketball court! Phillips was in the same conference as Northwestern State University in Alva. The rest is history!

We were married Nov 25 of that year!! I don’t know how everyone else feels about this, but one of the hardest things about marriage is adapting to someone else’s way to life.

Like breakfast.

The first Monday when Dean was headed off to school, I asked him what he wanted for breakfast and told him I usually just had toast, and he said that’d work. Got out my bright new toaster and set out our new dishes along with butter and jelly. Toast popped up, and I put one on his plate and one on mine. He looked at it with this dead pan look….back at me and back at the toast, then he said, “It’s not buttered!”

He quickly discovered that his mother didn’t live with us! I guess I thought everyone had the same little life’s rules!

But it’s been an amazing ride! Lots of yellow dog trips and more ballgames than I ever thought possible! Our children are always there for us and so happy for that! Thanks for asking. This has been a great memory update!
