A group of former Flying Queens who played for Coach Dean Weese at Wayland Baptist University is spearheading a fundraising tribute in honor of his 86th birthday on Sept. 27, 2021. The tribute is called “$8600 for 86 years,” with the net proceeds benefitting the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation (HFQF). This fundraiser has the Weese family’s blessing.

Starting Monday, Aug. 16 through Friday, Sept. 24, , this group will be contacting former players, coaches, and friends about giving to this effort. The fundraiser also will be shared on the Foundation’s Facebook page and by email.

Do it Now
Two years ago, a group of former players from Wayland and Levelland as well as family and coaching colleagues travelled to Granbury and surprised Coach Weese with a party on his 84th birthday. During the first weekend of this month (August) a small group of former players returned to Granbury and spent the weekend visiting with the Weese family.

“Two years ago, during Coach Weese’s party, we started talking among ourselves about how we could honor our coach,” said Kathy Booth Loter, who played for Weese from 1979-81 and served as his assistant coach at Levelland High School. “With Coach Weese now in his 80s, we realized we needed to get busy and do this now.”

Loter adds, “We are asking all those who loved Coach Weese as we do to join with us in making a tax-deductible gift to honor this man who impacted so many young ladies’ lives and influenced generations of high school and college coaches.”

“In advance of any decision, please accept our thanks for considering this heartfelt request,” said Loter, who also serves as the HFQF’s second vice president for fundraising and social activities. “We hope that you will join with us in honoring this legendary coach who, even after all these years, we still love dearly!”
