The Wayland Baptist Flying Queens have announced the signing of three high school seniors: Peyton North, Karleigh Gutierrez and Bobbie Fouquet.

North played at Lubbock Cooper High School, helping the Lady Pirates to the Class 5A state championship game. According to Flying Queens head coach Jason Cooper, North is a “quick and skilled shooting guard with the great ability to both score and defend.” She was awarded multiple player of the week awards and was named first-team all-district.

Gutierrez is a guard who hails from Albuquerque, N.M., where she played at La Cueva High School. “We are excited to have Karleigh join the Flying Queens family and can’t wait to get her here on campus this upcoming fall,” Cooper said.

Fouquet comes to Wayland from Claude High School where she collected numerous TGCA and TABC all-state honors and multiple district MVP awards among many others accolades. “Bobbie is a dynamic scorer who also can both score and defense,” Cooper said of the 6-foot wing.

In 2022-23, the Flying Queens finished the season with a 21-11 record. After placing fourth in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings, the Queens, ranked the equivalent of 35th in the NAIA, advanced to the SAC Tournament championship game. Their season ended in the first round of the NAIA National Championships with a narrow, 68-66 loss to Southern Oregon.
