The Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation was recently learned that Gloria Ann (Hramer) Cox, Flying Queen, 1951-54, died Aug. 2, 2023.
She was born on Aug. 9, 1934 in Plano, Texas. Gloria graduated from Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas in 1955 and was part of the Flying Queens teams that won a women’s collegiate basketball record 131 consecutive games; this record still stands today.
Gloria enjoyed a long teaching and coaching career in Texas schools and like many Queens from her era was instrumental in helping start girls’ athletic program. She helped start the Paris ISD girls’ athletics program in 1974, coaching the first-ever girls’ basketball, volleyball, and track teams at Travis Middle School.
