Plainview, Texas – Sophomore Megan Nestor has been awarded Player of the Week for the week that ended January 21, 2024. She won back-to-back Oklahoma Ford Dealer’s Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week and the NCCAA Women’s Basketball Division 1 Player of the Week. Last week, Nestor averaged 23 points and 15.3 rebounds per game to go along with 3.3 steals per game.

Nestor led the Flying Queens to three conference victories over the week against Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Central Christian College (Kan.), and Top-25 receiving votes Langston. The 3-0 week helped Wayland Baptist get to 15-3 overall and 10-2 I conference which ranks them 2nd in the conference only behind John Brown University.

When the Queens took on the Aggie of OPSU, Nestor scored 10 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and a team-high 7 steals in 21 minutes off the bench. She also dished 2 assists and shot 4-7 from the floor in the 100-38 victory for the Queens.

She then led the Queens to a 100-41 win over Central Christian College (Kan.) by scoring 27 points, grabbing 16 rebounds, and finished 11-18 from the floor. She also grabbed 9 offensive rebounds and 3 steals in only 20 minutes off the bench.

To finish off her dominant week, she led the Queens to a 77-66 win over Langston, who was 2nd in SAC standings and receiving votes for the Top 25. Nestor was back in the starting lineup for this matchup and was dominant scoring 32 points and grabbing a single-game program record 24 rebounds. She grabbed 10 offensive rebounds, shot 11-16 from the floor, and 10-14 from the free throw line. Nestor set career highs in points, rebounds, field goals made, free throws made, and minutes played with 35 minutes.

Nestor is the first Flying Queen to take home the NCCAA Player of the Week award. The NCCAA was “Established in 1968, the National Christian College Athletic Association used intercollegiate athletics to further the Great Commission and is committed to equipping student-athletes and coaches to make a positive impact for Christ.”

Nestor and the Queens have won six straight games and will look to keep up the dominant stretch on the road this week against Mid-America Christian University (Okla.) and Southwestern Christian University.
