Plainview, Texas – The NCCAA released their January 8th Coaches Polls for men’s and women’s basketball, and both the Pioneers and Flying Queens cracked the Top 10 in the rankings.

The NCCAA was established in 1968, and “the National Christian College Athletic Association uses intercollegiate athletics to further the Great Commission and is committed to equipping student-athletes and coaches to make a positive impact for Christ.” The NCCAA has 92 member institutions.

The Pioneers (10-3, 5-2 SAC) were ranked 3rd overall receiving 45 votes. The Pioneers were previously ranked 9th overall and jumped 6 spots in this week’s rankings. The Pioneers had victories over RV University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma and Texas Wesleyan University.

The Flying Queens (10-3, 5-2 SAC) came in ranked 5th overall after receiving 29 votes. The Flying Queens were also ranked 5th overall in last week’s Coaches Polls. The Flying Queens went 2-1 in games for this poll with wins at Our Lady of the Lake University and Texas Wesleyan, and a loss at the RV University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma.

Wayland Baptist is one of five Sooner Athletic Conference members to be member institutions of the NCCAA joining Central Christian University, Mid-America Christian (Okla.), Southwestern Assemblies of God University, and Southwestern Christian University.

The Pioneers and Flying Queens are set to face off against Southwestern Assemblies of God University and the University of North Texas at Dallas this Thursday and Saturday.
