Plainview, Texas – The Wayland Baptist women’s basketball team has been tabbed third in the 2023-24 Sooner Athletic Conference preseason poll as voted on by the league’s coaches Thursday afternoon.

The Queens are slotted into the third slot in the preseason poll with 95 points after finishing third in the regular season last year with a 15-7 league record and an overall mark of 21-11. The Pioneers advanced to the SAC tournament final before falling to Southwestern Christian 70-60 and will look to make their 11th consecutive NAIA Tournament.

Mid-America Christian is the preseason favorite in the conference with 113 points and eight first-place votes while Science & Arts is just ahead of the Pioneers in the second position with
104 points and one first-place vote. John Brown is fourth with 91 points and two first-place votes while Texas Wesleyan is in the fifth position with 78 points.

The Queens return Kaitlyn Edgemon to this year’s squad after she was voted to the SAC second team last year and she also joined the SAC All-Defensive team following an outstanding campaign a year ago. Taylor Houston also returns after an outstanding freshman season as she was named to the conference All-Freshman Squad.

Wayland Baptist opens the 2023-24 season on November 10 against Texas A&M-Texarkana in the opening game of the Queens Classic.
